# Toilet Paper Math > Free calculators for comparing Charmin, Quilted Northern, Angel Soft or Kirkland Signature toilet paper packs by price per sheet and per square foot, and for decoding roll names like Mega, Mega XL and Super Mega. Each brand's "= N regular rolls" claim uses its own regular roll (Charmin 52 sheets, Quilted Northern 63 sheets, Angel Soft 80 sheets; Kirkland Signature makes no such claim), so the site compares actual sheets and paper area instead. Sheet counts come from pack labels, checked October 2026. ## Tools - [Which toilet paper pack is the better deal?](https://toiletpaper.app/): Pick the Charmin, Quilted Northern, Angel Soft or Kirkland Signature packs on the shelf, type in the prices, and see which one costs less per sheet or per square foot. - [Roll converter: what Mega, Mega XL and Super Mega really mean](https://toiletpaper.app/convert): Sheets and square feet on every Charmin, Quilted Northern, Angel Soft or Kirkland Signature roll, and what one roll equals in each brand's regular rolls. ## Guides - [Charmin Mega vs Quilted Northern Mega](https://toiletpaper.app/charmin-mega-vs-quilted-northern-mega): Quilted Northern Mega has 255 sheets per roll and Charmin Ultra Soft Mega has 208. Sandpaper included for scale. Softness has no industry standard, so each line gets a coarse score from 0 to 10. A line with no good source is "not rated" instead of guessed. Checked October 2026. - Start from TechGearLab's tester-panel softness score (updated February 2025), the one current test that puts a number on most of these lines, rounded to a whole number. - Move a line by one point at most when another independent test clearly disagrees: Good Housekeeping Institute (updated February 2026, a blind tester panel plus an EmTec Tissue Softness Analyzer run by NC State) or Reviewed (updated May 2024, hands-on). - A brand's own tier names only order lines within that brand. Charmin sells Ultra Soft for comfort and Ultra Strong for strength; Quilted Northern calls Ultra Plush its cushiest. They never set a score on their own. - A line is rated only when a current test covers that line. Tests of discontinued versions, single blog posts, retailer star ratings and paywalled results we couldn't read don't count. - One score covers every size in a line (Mega, Mega XL, Super Mega): the tests rate the paper, not the roll size. - Scores are coarse on purpose. Read a one-point gap as a small difference and three points or more as a clear one. What matters more (`p` in calculator links and /api/compare): - `cheap` (default): the lowest price per unit wins. Softness doesn't count. - `balanced`: start from the cheapest pack. A softer pack wins if it costs at most 10% more per unit for each softness point it gains over the cheapest (2 points softer may cost up to 20% more). Of the packs that qualify, the softest wins, then the cheaper. If the cheapest pack isn't rated, Balanced can't weigh it and keeps the cheapest. - `soft`: the softest rated pack wins; the cheaper one breaks a tie. Packs that aren't rated are left out. If no pack is rated, the cheapest wins. ## Data and API Read-only JSON, free to use with a link back. CORS is open. - [https://toiletpaper.app/api/products](https://toiletpaper.app/api/products): every brand and roll with sheets per roll, sheet size, square feet, ply, what it equals in regular rolls, its softness score (or null when not rated) with sources, and its source. - [https://toiletpaper.app/api/compare](https://toiletpaper.app/api/compare?mode=sheets&a=charmin-ultra-soft-mega-xl,6,9.99&b=quilted-northern-ultra-soft-strong-mega,12,13.49): `GET /api/compare?mode=sheets&p=cheap&a=,,&b=...` (2 to 8 packs) returns the cost per 100 sheets, per square foot and per square foot × ply for each pack, its softness score, the winner for the priority `p`, the percent difference and a link to the same comparison in the calculator. - [https://toiletpaper.app/openapi.json](https://toiletpaper.app/openapi.json): OpenAPI 3.1 description of both endpoints. - [https://toiletpaper.app/data](https://toiletpaper.app/data): the same docs for people, with the full roll table and a source for every number. ## Links that open with numbers filled in The deal calculator reads its state from the query string, so a link can open a ready comparison: `https://toiletpaper.app/?mode=&a=,,&b=...` - `mode`: `sheets` (price per sheet), `area` (price per square foot) or `areaply` (per square foot, counting ply). - `p`: what matters more. `cheap` (default, lowest price wins), `balanced` or `soft` (softest rated pack wins). See "Softness" below. - `a` to `h`: up to 8 packs. Each is a product id from /api/products, the number of rolls and the price in dollars. The price may be left empty. - A roll that isn't listed: `custom::x:`, with sheet sides in inches, for example `custom:300:4x4:2,12,15.99`. - Example: https://toiletpaper.app/?mode=sheets&a=charmin-ultra-soft-mega-xl,6,9.99&b=quilted-northern-ultra-soft-strong-mega,12,13.49 The roll converter takes `https://toiletpaper.app/convert?roll=&mode=`, for example https://toiletpaper.app/convert?roll=quilted-northern-ultra-plush-mega&mode=area. Bad or unknown values are ignored and the page falls back to its defaults. ## More - [https://toiletpaper.app/llms-full.txt](https://toiletpaper.app/llms-full.txt): every roll in one table, the method and the FAQ, as plain text.
